DAY ONE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2022

BY GARY WASSNER

M65

Anthony Hendrickson does something that has become extremely hard to do these days. He designs a primarily denim focused collection that is thoroughly unique and fun. The NY-centric label is alluring and provocative, while also being sophisticated by virtue of Hendrickson’s singular usage of design elements, layering, and choices of accessories. The unexpected juxtaposition of print-on-print in his approach to style is outspoken and soothing at the same time. This is a brand for the bold fashion savant, a person comfortable in their own skin, not a timid individual. But don’t get me wrong; The collection isn’t outrageous or unwearable. It’s brave and young, while being stylistically clever and genuine. According to Anthony himself, when I asked him before the show what inspired the collection his simple response was “Jesus.”

The ensembles, many this season, are of materials other than denim, do not feel forced or over-designed. In fact, the proportions he utilizes feel extremely natural, while maintaining his singular point of view. Exceptional in its print choices, the montage of color in each piece of the collection is striking. Untraditional silhouettes, unisex designs, and outstanding styling make this collection one to watch.
