DAY FIVE: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2022

BY GARY WASSNER

MAISIE WILEN

Maisie Schloss, the founder and designer of Maisie Wilen, knows what she wants. Without hesitation, she designs bold, bright and beautiful pieces that enhance the body and flatter the soul.

Founded in 2019, Ms. Schloss has leapt into the fashion world with verve and confidence, much like her customers. Her unabashed use of color and print characterizes her work. It is obvious that she marches to her own creative drum. I spoke with Maisie before the show and she told me she was inspired by CGI techniques in film for this collection. She also noted that this is her very first runway show so she’s particularly excited today, and understandably just a bit nervous.

The clothing is unique and modern, and daring. It is challenging today to be able to establish a unique voice among the many hundreds of competing brands. Maisie has clearly overcome that challenge. Even more impressive is how the clothing moves with the body, almost like a second and more complex skin.

She’s a true talent and I look forward to seeing her collections evolve over time. Certainly, she has time, since she is not going away anytime soon! She is the living definition of one to watch.
