The 1960s:

If six degrees of separation were to apply to fashion design, and some would agree that it does, then Hubert de Givenchy – French aristocrat, born a count – and “Connecticut Yankee”, Donald Brooks, would exemplify the concept. In both was a design aesthetic defined by the carefully considered absence of all but perfection of line, cut and tailoring. The tie that binds, though, would be their shared passion for stage and screen: Givenchy, most notably for his collaboration with life long friend and muse, Audrey Hepburn (think Funny Face, Love In The Afternoon and Charade, among others), and the Tony and Oscar nominated Brooks for the wardrobes that brought glamour, grace and light to Star! and Darling Lili , on the screen, and so many Broadway productions…among them Promises, Promises, Barefoot In The Park and No Strings.
